Episode 3: Outtakes

January 28, 2018 in Season 1

In episode #3 Laura plays a selection of Dylan's finest songs which originally didn't make the album cut. (Apologies for the technical difficulties at the beginning.)

Besides the Caribbean Wind version released on Biograph, and the two versions that were included on Trouble No More, here’s the fourth version mentioned in the episode, which has thus far only circulated as a bootleg recording.

Here’s the only live version of Abandoned Love.

And this is the electric version of Blind Willie McTell that was supposedly in the running for making it onto the Infidels release, but which has remained unreleased as of now.

And this is the Definitely Dylan Spotify playlist.

Playlist:

  1. Seven Curses

  2. Lay Down Your Weary Tune

  3. Caribbean Wind (Rehearsal With Pedal Steel)

  4. Abandoned Love

  5. Up To Me

  6. Blind Willie McTell

  7. Lord Protect My Child

  8. Red River Shore

Episode 2: Dylan's Duets

January 21, 2018 in Season 1

This week Laura Tenschert is playing a selection of Dylan's duets!

Here's a video of the duet with Patti Smith of the song Dark Eyes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLEkrS0CWK8

Here's my favourite live version of Dylan and King singing Abraham Martin & John.

Here's the video of the Dylan and George Harrison duet played in the episode.

Lastly, a correction: the Dylan version of the song Wallflower wasn’t recorded during the New Morning sessions, but at the same session as the single George Jackson (4 November 1971).

Playlist:

  1. Heartland (with Willie Nelson)

  2. Oh, Sister (with Emmylou Harris)

  3. Chimes Of Freedom (with Joan Osborne)

  4. Mama You Been On My Mind (with Joan Baez, live, 31 October, Philharmonic Hall, NYC)

  5. The Water Is Wide (with Joan Baez, live 21 November, Boston Music Hall, Boston, MA, second show)

  6. Abraham, Martin and John (with Clydie King, from Trouble No More)

  7. Wallflower - Doug Sahm

  8. Sign Language - Eric Clapton

  9. Buckets of Rain - Bette Middler

  10. If Not For You (with George Harrison, Concert for Bangladesh rehearsal)
